JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The church organist shall demonstrate the playing level commensurate with the music of First Presbyterian Church. Formal training is desired and experience is needed. A personal repertoire of readily available sacred music is required in order to supplement the worship services in the form of prelude, offertories, and postludes. All music presented must be specifically written for sacred use only.

The organist plays a supportive role for the worship service. While the organist does lead the congregational singing, the primary role is a supportive musician, always seeking the enhancement of other musicians, the congregation, and the worship service. FPC is seeking a contributing, socially-engaged team player. We are not seeking a solo performance artist.

REQUIRED HOURS: Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 7:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In the event of a year long hire, two weeks for unpaid vacation is allotted. Extra rehearsals for seasonal Cantatas as needed by director (no less than 4 per year).

RESPONSIBILITES:
The church organist shall accompany the Chancel Choir (on piano, organ, or harpsichord as needed) for Wednesday and Sunday morning rehearsals and traditional services. The organist will play notes printed as published. Judicious improvisation is acceptable for the final verse of hymns.

Summary:    
The Organist/ Music Director position is a one-year ministry position in which the person hired reports directly to the Rector of St Georges. Said person must first and foremost have a mature faith in Christ, as evidenced in a regular practice of personal prayer, as well as willingness to follow God’s calling in the movement of services and the church. Preferred experience of at least 2 years in regards to playing an organ or any other instrument, and at least 3 years of experience as a music director. Music degree is preferred but not mandatory. The person hired must demonstrate interpersonal skills and sensitivities, understanding of appropriate professional boundaries within a ministry setting, and possess excellent oral and written communications skills. Along with the previous skills mentioned, said person is also asked to demonstrate ability to read congregation regarding music likes and dislikes, be able and willing to learn the liturgy if not already familiar, be willing to collaborate with choir, is expected to introduce contemporary hymnody, and is willing to practice repetition with hymns throughout the year. Will be expected to play during special occasions (Holidays, Funerals, Weddings) when they arrive and as needed throughout the year. Person holding this position should demonstrate willingness to follow God’s will along with aiming to glorify God in every opportunity presented.

Work Relations:
The staff of Riverside Church works as a cooperative team and it is expected that the candidate will be a full participant in this team model. All staff members report to the pastor as staff supervisor, to the Worship and Sacrament Commission for matters of worship organization and to the Personnel Commission for matters of employment and performance evaluation. In practice the Organist/Choir Director will consult with the pastor in defining the worship theme for each service of worship, special programs, and provide support in selection of hymns and other worship music. Video presentation resources are available to enhance the service. Our hymnal is the new Presbyterian Hymnal “Glory to God”.

• Promote the spiritual life of the congregation with anthem and hymn in the weekly traditional service

Position Description: Organist to accompany SATB 15 – 20 voice choir on 2 Sunday mornings per month (generally, the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month). 1 or 2 rehearsals per month on Sunday after service with some additional needed in preparation for Christmas and Easter. Our immediate need is accompaniment for our Christmas Pageant rehearsals on 12/11 and 12/17, and performance on 12/18.

The goal of the MUSIC & LITURGY DIRECTOR is to coordinate the yearly liturgical planning in English and Spanish, and conduct/supervise the music and audiovisual programs in the parish. Responsibilities include (other duties may be assigned):
 
1. Liturgical Planning
a. Meet regularly with the Pastor to develop and coordinate the parish musical and liturgical program.
b.  Music and liturgy planning for weekend masses and Holy Days, including contemporary Catholic music.
c. Music and liturgy coordination for Religious Education, funerals and weddings.
 
2. Music Ministries
a. Recruit and formation of parish cantors and music volunteers.
b. Develop and manage a budget including as necessary, supplies, mailings, and song and music books for the music ministry.
c. Ensure that the liturgical music utilized is in accordance with the currently accepted practices of the Roman Catholic Church.
d. Supervision/Training of audiovisual ministries.
e. Supervision/maintenance of audiovisual equipment.
 
3. Liturgical Ministries
     a. Supervise the different liturgical ministries (EMHC, lectors, Altar Servers, and Ushers). Meet regularly with liturgical ministries coordinators to support the development and training in the liturgical program.
b. Ensure that all liturgical ministries, musicians and choir members are well-versed in the liturgy of the Church and the propriety of their duties including an understanding of the rubrics of the Church.
c. Liaison between liturgical ministries and Pastoral staff.
 
Minimum Qualifications: Requirements for this position:
       Bachelor's Degree in Music or Music Education from an Accredited College or University.
Detailed knowledge of the Catholic liturgy and liturgical patrimony
Excellent organ skills and knowledge of organ literature and improvisation
A high level of organizational and interpersonal skill and attention to detail and working well with others
Previous experience in a Catholic Church setting is preferred.

He/She will be responsible for the planning organizing conducting, and evaluation of a comprehensive music ministry. First United Methodist Church of Ocala, FL is seeking a part-time organist/accompanist for a position opening September 1, 2015.  

FUMC Ocala is a large, historic church with a beautiful, recently restored 4 manual, 93 rank Wicks pipe organ.  Our music program includes traditional vocal choirs, handbell choirs, instrumental ensembles, as well as contemporary worship bands.
 
Purpose:
   Works with/Reports to the music director in order to usher and lead the congregation in a spirit of worship that draws people to discipleship in Jesus Christ.
Responsibilities:
•  Provide appropriate organ/piano music for the traditional Sunday services, generally including but not limited to: Gathering Music, Prelude, Hymns (selected by the Pastors or through collaboration),
Choral Anthems/Special Music/Guest Musician(s), Offertory, Communion, Postlude
•  Rehearse each week with the Chancel Choir and occasionally with other ensembles or soloists.
ï Establish a personal weekly rehearsal time at the organ and inform our main office of your schedule so we can regulate the temperature of the Sanctuary. These established practice times will be protected.
•  Meet as needed with the Director of Music for planning and preparation for worship services and other events.
ï Submit the titles and composers of music literature to the church office by 10:00am each Thursday for inclusion in the Sunday bulletin.
•  Additional services and events that are part of base pay may include choir concerts, recitals, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunrise service, two Christmas Eve services, etc. These additional rehearsals, services/events are scheduled with the concurrence of the Director of Music.
•  Provide for qualified substitutes for all absences.
•  Provide accompaniment for funerals, memorial services, and weddings
 
Qualifications:
•  Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
•  Love and respect for all people. 
•  Attested musical skills on the organ and piano.
•  Sense of humor and positive attitude. 
•  Strong team player with the rest of the staff and congregation.

Additional services or events which are not part of the position’s base salary for which you will be appropriately compensated.
•  The church shall provide monies for proper care of the organ and pianos located in the church, including quarterly organ and piano tunings and any necessary repairs.
•  The Organist/Pianist/Accompanist shall report to the Director of Music concerning the condition and maintenance needs of the organ and pianos, including tunings, repairs, etc.
 
The position is 10 hours/week and salary is commensurate with experience.
